“Bless You”
Why? Why are these words spoken?
Back then when people sneezed they believed that the soul separated from the body. To prevent the devil stealing the soul the incantation "bless you"
When? When did this saying originate?
It entered the English language in the early part of the 20th century.
How? How did this saying originate?
The most part, the various sneeze responses originated from ancient superstitions
Where? Where did this saying originate?
The phrase "God bless you" is attributed to Pope Gregory the Great, who uttered it in the sixth century during a bubonic plague epidemic.
